Science Week

As part of our STEM week activities we have been learning about sustainable energy. We have looked closely at wind power and wind turbines.

We first explored wind turbines and then carried out an investigation to see how much power our turbines could generate. We checked this by connecting our "home made" turbines to an envelope and put an increasing number of gems in it until the turbine couldn't pick up anymore.

The children really enjoyed the investigation and it raised some fascinating class discusssions.

Stanley noticed

" that changing the direction of the wind affected the turbine's strength and we couldn't go over 7 or 8 gems. Don't put on too much heat because the blue-tac will melt!"
