Squirrel Class Travel to Scutari Hospital!

Squirrel Class went on an imaginary journey today to the Scutari Military Hospital in Turkey. They took on the roles of wounded soldiers, doctors, nurses and of course Florence Nightingale to see what life could have been like over 160 years ago during the Crimean War.

Florence and her nurses arrived to see the appalling conditions, they were warned not to stay by the doctors and told to go home. But they stayed and cleaned the hospital to improve the soldiers chances of survival. Eventually the nurses were allowed to care for the soldiers and this is when Florence Nightingale became known as the Lady of the Lamp.
