Florence Nightingale Visits Y2

Florence Nighitngale came to visit and helped us to learn more about her and her amazing life as part of our topic. She began by telling us about her childhood and why she felt she wanted to be a nurse. She got us to see what it was like being taught by her governess and having to do dancing and embroidery (which Florence didn't like).

We then became the telegraph wire so that the Times journalist could send his morse code messages back from the Crimea to London. This meant that all the people in England could read how terrible the conditions were for the soldiers injured in the Crimean War. This made Florence more determined than ever to do something and to help.

Afterwards we became the nurses going to the Crimean War and travelled all the way by boat and train. It took two and a half weeks! At the hospital we cleaned and helped to make the soldiers better before returning home to London.
