Dear Parents,
I
can hardly believe that we are already at the mid term break.
I hope everyone has a good holiday. Read on for news of several local events
that you might enjoy with the children during the holiday.
Walk to School Week : May 21st to 25th
Thank you for all your support this
week. First thing on Monday morning I thought we were going to have a repeat of
last year’s wet weather but fortunately I was proved wrong !
Walk to School Week Diary Competition
Please bring your
completed diaries back after the break and remember to name them.
Walk to School ‘Super Heroes’ Breakfast
What a great turn out
this morning. I hope you all enjoyed the breakfast fare. The children looked
great in their ‘tree person’ masks. The large inflatable globe represented the
amount of Carbon Dioxide created by the average daily car journey to and from school.
Driving 1 km produces 85.17 litres of CO2 ! Apparently
we are exposed to three times more pollution inside a car than walking along
the pavement!
Our thanks to
Stokes Greengrocers, the Co-op and Sainsburys for
sponsoring the event.

After the break we
will be starting our planned
programme of visits and joint activities involving Y3 teachers
and children from the juniors. I understand that the junior newsletter
contained one or two of the dates. There will be a special Y2 information sheet
after the holiday detailing the events for you and asking for a permission form
to be completed.

The Co-op Scala Art
Competition
The Co-op Scala is supporting the ‘Children’s Society’ as their sponsored
charity this year. This is the charity who award our Children’s Rights Charter.
They are running an art competition exclusively for children at this school to
help raise money for the Children’s Society so each entry will cost £1. They
would like the children to create a picture to show what they would like to be
when they grow up. This might be a good activity to carry ourt over the
holiday. Please bring your named entries in by Friday 13th June.
Please sellotape a £1 coin to the back of each picture entered.
Messy Monsters Art
Club is now holding classes locally for babies and children.
These are educational, fun, varied and structured to allow children to
explore their creative side in messy activities you wouldn’t want in your own
home ! Includes drawing, model making, colage, playdough and painting.

Community Learning Service Visit : Monday June 5th from 8.50am
The
Community Learning Service is visiting the school on Monday June 5th
to offer information and advice to parents and carers who have less than a
level 2 qualification ( 5 x GCSE ‘C’ grades), regarding anything to do with
training, learning and work. If you have been thinking that now is the time to
get some more training in order to do a particular job, need advice about
applying for jobs such as writing CVs or interview techniques, or just want to
see if any of the things available take your fancy do pop into the hall after
you have dropped your child off. Tea and coffee will be provided so why not
stop by for a chat with Rowan Tanner and her team who are eager to meet as many
parents as possible.

Health and Safety
New No Smoking Laws
The new law
banning smoking in public places comes into force on July 1st 2007.
This should not pose any difficulties for us as the school has been a non
smoking site for a long time. To conform with the law
new signs have been placed on the entrances to the building.
Dogs
A reminder that too that dogs
are not permitted anywhere on the school site.
Earrings
Please
remember that if your child wears earrings to school they must be studs. Hooped styles of any size
are not suitable and should not be worn.
I
hope you all enjoy the week’s break. Don’t forget that we return on Monday 4th
June and that Friday 8th June is an In Service Day.
Yours sincerely,
Jo Claridge
Headteacher
