Dear Parents,
Finally we have
arrived at the last few days of school for this term and the day of our
Christmas Parties. This is the end of a very happy and busy term in school and
we hope that you have all enjoyed the variety of seasonal activities.
Christmas Dinner
It was wonderful to welcome so many of you to share in our
Christmas Dinners last week and I know that those who attended had a lovely
meal.
I would like to pay tribute to Mandy, Tina and Sarah for all
their hard work to make a somewhat ‘crazy’ idea not only a reality but go so
well. Also thanks to the lunchtime staff who came in early each day and to
those parents who stayed on to help in the playground on Thursday. The three
days were a massive team effort. For those of you who like statistics Mandy and
co cooked 502 meals over the three days for two schools !
Christmas Carol
Service
Thank you also to all those who
supported the Christingle Carol Service at
Christmas Charity
Collection
Thank you
for your generous donations at the end of our school celebrations. The total
raised is yet to be finalised but the money
will be shared between ‘Children in Need’ and supporting our sponsored
child ‘Edouard and his village in
Nativity Supplement
Look out
for pictures of the children in the Bath Chronicle’s Nativity Supplement later
this week. We sent along six photos so hope that some of them will feature.
Holidays in Term Time
As Christmas is a popular time for arranging the summer
holiday may I remind you that there is a limit of 10 school days per school
year for holiday to be taken in term time. However we
do encourage you to try to arrange holidays out of term time.
Please note that we cannot authorise any holiday during May
for children in Year 2 due to the timetable of End of Key Stage 1 assessments
and that you are strongly discouraged from taking time off during Terms 4 and
5.
Lost Items
A few items of clothing etc seem to have gone astray during
the festivities. Please have a look for the following :
A
white towel embroidered with the name Maisie and a
picture of Peter Rabbit belonging to Maisie Treacher in Orange Class and of sentimental value.
A
school sweatshirt labelled MacW belonging to
Mackenzie Waldron in Purple Class
A
pair of grey school trousers belonging to Jacob Sobers-Cummins
: someone in Y2 went home wearing Jacob’s trousers and he went home
wearing theirs. Jacobs mum has returned a pair and would like to swap them for
Jacobs. Please check that you have the right pairs at home or on your child. As
this probably happened on the day of the egg performance please could all Y2
parents check. It is likely that the label had been cut out as it was
‘scratchy’!!
School Meals
Attached is a letter from B&NES explaining that school
meal prices are to rise from January to £1.85 per day.
We really hope that this will not discourage you from choosing school meals for your child,
especially as so many of you have now experienced first hand the high quality
of the meals here. We have been working hard as a school to encourage more uptake of the meals and will continue to do so in the New
year with further promotions and improvements where possible.
Paying for School
Meals
A BIG PLEA from
the school office. Please send dinner money on a Monday morning in a named and sealed
envelope and give into the class teacher NOT the office. Correct money
is appreciated but change will be sent home later in the week. If you can mark
the envelope clearly with the days required that is also a great help to us.
Remember we are dealing with 165 children’s choices over 5 days a week so do
need a bit of help to get it right !!
To help you here is a ‘ready reckoner’
for dinner money from January 08.

Free School Meals
You might
also like to check whether you are eligible for Free School Meals. If you are
in receipt of Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) and earn less than £14,155 per annum,
or you are receiving Income Support you may be entitled. Your child doesn’t
then have to have school meals every day but you can have a free meal on the
days you choose. No one else knows who has free meals it is just marked in the
register so that we don’t ask you for payment and the children answer the register
in the same way as everyone else.
After School French Lessons : Thursdays
La Jolie Ronde
will be offering after school French Lessons to children in YR and Y1 after Christmas. We have a
few Y1s interested already but need to swell the numbers if the course is to
take place. If you would like a more detailed letter and application form
please call at the office.
Parentlineplus Groups for Parents
Please find attached a timetable of short courses for
parents which will be running in various locations in the
Keeping up With the
Children
This is the title of a course that we usually organise to
run in school during the Spring or Summer terms. It
deals with the way that literacy (reading, writing and spelling) and maths are
taught in school and is a good introduction for parents who want to know more
about how we teach these things and how to help their child at home.
If enough people are interested we will try to get a course going in the New Year.
Back to School
Please
remember that school starts again on Thursday January 3rd 2008.
Thank you to the many members of our school
community, parents, staff, children and governors, who have helped to make 2007
yet another successful
and happy year for the school.
Finally , a
big thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make Christmas in school so
enjoyable and varied ; all the staff for their hard work with the children, producing the wonderful displays, celebrations and
parties ; the
May I take this opportunity to wish
everyone associated with the school a very happy and peaceful Christmas. See you all in 2008.
