2007 / 08 Number 6 . November 23rd 2007

Dear Parents,

This newsletter is accompanied by our ‘Christmas Special’ with details of our Christmas Celebrations and other events. . Please make sure that you keep this to refer to over the next few weeks. Year 2 parents please pay special attention to the details of our performance at ‘the egg’. Spare copies of all letters are available from the red pockets outside the office and on the website. This is always a busy and fun time to be in school.

Staff News

Those of you who have a longer association with the school will know that Jane Stone, one of our highly valued teaching assistants, and our longest serving member of staff has been absent due to ill health since June. Although Jane is making a slow recovery she is not yet well enough to return to school and has decided to retire. As her colleagues we are naturally sad to be losing Jane as part of our team. We will be finding a suitable way to mark the occasion of Jane’s retirement in the New Year.

School Dinners during Christmas Lunch Week : December 10th to 14th

School dinners will be available to all children as usual during this week. Each year group will have the Christmas Dinner menu on the day already allocated. On the other days they will be served a different meal. Mandy has asked me to let you know that due to the number of Christmas meals she is cooking, the main menu may differ slightly from that advertised for the week.

Please send dinner money in as usual for  this week £1.70 per child’s meal including the Christmas dinner and £2.30 for adult meals. Please pay on Monday December 10th.

Family SEAL : Going For Goals : Follow Up Assembly

You are welcome to join us at 10.00am on Wednesday 28th November for the follow up assembly for the ‘Going For Goals’ theme. We understand that it is more difficult for parents to attend the assemblies and that many of you are putting all your efforts into making time for the workshops. Mr George will be leading this whole school assembly which will last no longer than 30 minutes.

Zero Waste Week

On Monday 26th November (next Monday) we will be having a Zero Waste lunchtime in which everyone can participate.

If your child is bringing a packed lunch please try to choose items / packaging which will lead to nothing being left that cannot be recycled or composted. Last time we did this crisp packets and plastic wrapping were the main problem areas so perhaps you could choose alternative foods.

If you child is having a school lunch we will be encouraging clean plates.

Special stickers will be available as an incentive. We will be seeing how little waste we can create.

Walking to School

I understand that the walk to school which so many of you make along the railway path and Dorset Street is being spoiled by irresponsible dog owners allowing their animals to foul the path and failing to clean up. In common with many of you I have contacted the dog warden to ask for urgent action. The more of us make an issue out of this the better so please add your voice by email or phone to environmental_protection@bathnes.gov.uk  or 01225 394041

Lost Sweat Cardi

Please can you check to see if your child has got the wrong sweat cardi by mistake. We are looking for one sized 26 / 28 with the name Hope Hammond written on the label.

Christmas Fair : Saturday December 1st  12 noon to 2pm.

ô      Don’t forget to sell those raffle tickets – more are available from the office.

ô      Put up the posters to advertise the event.

ô      Make your donations for the stalls ~ please bring items to the hall on Friday November 30th

ô      Contribute to your class’s colour box

ô      Volunteer to help on the day itself ~ sign up on the board which will be on the playground from Monday.

Arrangements for Severe Weather.

With the weather taking a turn for the worse, these are details of the school’s arrangements in the event of severe weather.

We will always do our best to keep school open during bad weather such as snow or ice. However, all the full time teaching staff do have to travel some distance to reach school and we need to ensure that we have adequate care available.

If the school is closed we will normally arrange for announcements to be made on the local radio stations as early as possible so advise you to tune in to these in the first instance. We also belong to an internet service “Snowday”. In the case of snow, please log on to www.snowday.co.uk and search for our school’s name. The site will display whether the school is open or closed. The office should be staffed from 8am to receive calls if you are unable to get information from the radio or ‘Snowday

Snow Contact Pyramid

We also run an ‘emergency contact pyramid’ whereby each family can be contacted quickly by phone in the case of bad weather or another emergency.

This means your telephone number being given to one other parent only. You would then be asked to pass the message on to about three others. We now need permission to add all reception families and those new to the school.

Please return the form below by Friday November 30th    if you are NOT willing to be involved. Please also let us know if you were not involved last year but would like to be added.

Congratulations to ……

Isabel Bolton , sister of Nelly in Yellow Class, who has been chosen to dance in the pantomime at the Theatre Royal this year. This is the second year running that Oldfield Park children have

Taken part. So if you have tickets for Aladdin look out for Issy.

Does any one have a spare booster car seat.

We have had Mr George’s car seat on loan for some time, but he now needs it back. Does anyone have one they could lend or donate to us ? This is necessary in case we need to take a child somewhere in a staff car in an emergency.

We are looking forward to the next few weeks of Christmas preparation and festivity. Once again please take time to read both this newsletter and the Christmas Special.

Yours sincerely,
