Dear
Parents,
Welcome back

our favourite annual events taking place over the next few months. Dates of
many are included in this newsletter together with details of those that are
coming up soon.

progress this year and targets for the remainder of the year. Year 2 parents
will also have the opportunity to be informed about the likely outcomes of the
end of Key Stage 1 assessments which will be taking place during May. We would
encourage all parents to make an appointment.

Staff News
Mandy Jones, our cook in charge, will be away
from school from May 1st onwards. We wish her well as she has to go
into hospital for an operation and will spend several weeks recuperating. Sarah
and Kim will be taking over in Mandy’s absence so I am confident that normal
service will be retained ~ please give them your support and keep choosing
school meals.
We
welcome Sarah Van Sickle from
Playground Working Party : Sunday May 10th
Please
put this date in your diaries . We are planning a
working party morning from 10am to 1pm to help prepare the school grounds for
the summer term. Tasks will include placing bark on the paths in the wildlife
area and on the organic garden. The loan of wheelbarrows to move bark across
the playground would be appreciated and a supply of shovels would be good too.
Children are welcome with their parents and we all had great fun last time.
Plans for improvements
to Oldfield Park Infants’ School
We are planning two improvement projects for the summer
holidays 2008.
Toilets : the larger toilets, at the Year 1 end of the school will be
refurbished and the space re organised to provide a separate drinking water and
first aid area. All the sanitary ware will be replaced, urinals will be provided
and a suspended ceiling put in.
Kitchen and Canteen : at long last the kitchen has reached the top of the
B&NES list and will have a major refurbishment during the summer holiday.
This means that the time is right for us to redecorate the canteen to provide a
better environment for eating school dinners, the Breakfast and After School
Clubs, Family Learning etc. as mentioned in the last ‘Food For
Life’ newsletter.
COMPETITION : WANTED ! Your
ideas for the canteen.
What we want now are your ideas
for how we should decorate the canteen.
Can you think of a name and
theme for the canteen ? How would you decorate it ? What features could we add to the walls, windows etc !
We would like it to be something
that fits in with healthy eating that will make the canteen a really attractive
place where everyone wants to spend time eating their school dinner and
enjoying other activities such as Breakfast and After School Club. Make a poster or model to show your ideas for colour schemes
and decoration. The main areas to think
about are the walls and flooring. We are planning to move all the storage to
the side opposite the windows so the end wall will be ideal for a mural of some
description.
We will have some special prizes on offer for those who come up with the most exciting and imaginative ideas as well as the possibility of seeing your designs become a reality !
Send your entries in any time up to Thursday June 5th (after half term).
Eat A Meal in May !
Come and try the new Summer Menu for yourself.
We would like to invite all
parents to come and try the new summer menus for school meals which contain
some new seasonal dishes.
Join us for an adult meal on any
school day in May and your child will eat free on the same day. The offer is
limited to one adult per child but it could be mum, dad or a grandparent.
You will be able to eat your
meal (cost £2.76) with your child in the canteen at 12 noon. The children have
normally finished eating by about 12.25pm. To book your lunch please use the
booking form on the Food For Life newsletter sent at
the end of last term. Heather Kale has kindly offered to collate the bookings
once again. We will return the tear off slips to confirm your booking.
Please can you then keep the
tear off slip and send it in with your payment on the Monday of the week in
which you are staying.
For those of you who enter
school via the side door we are going to start displaying the daily menus on
the office window so that you can read them as you pass by.
Found : After Pirate Week
A pirate wristwatch.
If it is yours please let Mrs Claridge know ~ I have it in a
safe place.
P.T.A. Fashion Show
: calling all children and mums to be models !!
The
P.T.A. are organising a fashion show on Monday June 16th. It is a
few years since our last Fashion Show and on that occasion many girls and boys
as well as several mums really enjoyed the opportunity to be models and show
off some of the fashions on the cat walk. Now is the time when we are looking
for this year’s models so PLEASE consider volunteering for a really fun
experience. To register your interest please complete the slip at the end and
send it in.
Walk On Wednesdays ~ WOW !
Please keep ‘Walking on Wednesdays’.
May 19th to 23rd is Walk to School
