Dear Parents,
An extra
edition to bring you up to date with recent events and to wish everyone a very
happy mid term break.
Ted’s Big Day Out
Supporting
Ted made a great ending to our ‘Eat A Rainbow’ week
especially with Ted himself coming to school on Friday morning. All the
children looked very colourful and the amount raised by covering our giant
fruit with coins was £142.00. A special thank you to the Fraser family who took away all the money, counted and banked it
for us which was much appreciated.
Harvest Celebration
Thank you all for the
contributions to our Harvest Celebration on Wednesday. All the produce was displayed in the hall creating a lovely
backdrop for the celebration itself. We treated our visitors to a programme of
harvest related songs, poems and stories relating to our ‘Eat A Rainbow’ theme.
Each of our guests
chose some fresh produce afterwards with some being delivered to other elderly
local residents. The rest was sold yesterday afternoon raising £19.46 which the School Council have chosen to
donate to Unicef.
All dried and tinned
produce has been collected by the Genesis Trust to use with the homeless and
disadvantaged in
Family SEAL Assembly
A reminder that the
next Family SEAL assembly is on Monday 5th November at 9.15am
when we will be introducing the children to the theme of ‘New Beginnings.’ This
will be a whole school assembly and include the children from Green and Red
Classes. We hope that you will be able to stay for a short while after the
assembly when we will have a chance to follow up the recent workshop.
Parents’ Evenings
Next term’s parents
evenings are an opportunity for all parents to have a more detailed individual
discussion with their child’s teacher. The teachers will be able to tell you
about the targets we have set your child and what you can do to support your
child in his / her learning at home.
We encourage all
parents to make a ten minute appointment.
The dates and times are :
Monday 12th November
from
4.00 to 7.00pm
Tuesday13th November from
3.30 to 6.30pm
Lists will go up outside each classroom after the break . Please sign up for your preferred time. If you have
children in more than one class it is advisable to leave a gap of at least ten
minutes between appointments.
As we have arranged two evenings it would be very much
appreciated if wherever possible parents try to share child care. The teachers
really welcome the chance to talk to you in a quiet environment.
Mrs Julie Evans
our Special Needs Co-ordinator will be contacting parents of children that she
is supporting as she would also like to
take the opportunity to meet with some of you.
Parent Governor
Vacancies
After Christmas there will be two vacancies for parent
governors for our school. This is because two governors have reached the end of
their four year term of office and as they no longer have children at the
school they have decided to stand down. We plan to ask for nominations and hold
the elections at the beginning of January. In the meantime parents may like to
consider whether they would be interested in fulfilling such a role which gives
an insight into the leadership and management of the school. If you are
interested you might like to observe next term’s governors meeting to give you
a flavour of what is involved. I am
also more than happy to talk to anyone who is interested.
Firework Posters
If you haven’t brought your
poster in to school please take it to a branch of BIBs
by 22nd October. All children in school should bring home their free
ticket to the firework display tonight.
After School
French Classes for Year 1
It is not too late for Year 1 children to take up the
opportunity to start French classes with La Jolie Ronde on a Wednesday after school from 3.15 to 3.45pm after
half term. The exact start date is yet to be confirmed. A letter with further
details is available from the office or you can contact the organiser, Maria
Antonio on 0775 123 5959.
School Meals
Promotion and Questionnaire
Thank
you for the many responses we have received to both of these. We look forward
to welcoming lots of you to enjoy a meal alongside your child in November. You
will get your reply slips back immediately after half term. We will also be considering the detail of
your answers to the questionnaire and trying to use lots of your ideas to move
lunchtimes forward.
A Plea from the
Reception Classes
We are trying to expand
our dressing up collections so we would appreciate any donations of the
following items :
scarves hats dresses bags
lengths of material anything else you think we
might enjoy using
These items need to be
large enough to put on top of school uniform !
Y1 Visit to ‘the egg’
Please remember that
this visit to see ‘ Beneath the Waves’ is on Thursday November 1st
which only leaves us with one day to chase up permission slips after half term.
Please check that you have replied and bring in any remaining slips and
donations on October 31st .
In Service Day
We have decided that we
will take an In Service day on Wednesday
December 19th (the last day of
Term 2) in order to plan additional units of literacy for the whole school.
Therefore term will finish on Tuesday December 18th.
School Data
Attached is a notice re
Fair Processing which we are required to send you for information.
Please can we also
remind you to make sure that we are told promptly of any changes of address and
/ or telephone numbers so that we can always contact you if necessary. We
should also be able to contact another family member or friend in case you
cannot be contacted.
We look forward to seeing you all after the break on
Wednesday October 31st.
Yours sincerely,
Jo Claridge
