Photograph Gallery - Eat a Rainbow Theme Week, October 2007

The theme for this week was healthy eating. We learned that if you ‘eat a rainbow’ you will usually be having a healthy diet and that when you eat your ‘five a day’ you can try to eat fruit and vegetables of different colours.

These are some of the activities we enjoyed during the week :

  • Every day we got the chance to try fruit and vegetables from each colour of the rainbow. For example on Monday the colour was red and we tried red pepper, tomatoes, pomegranate, red grapes, water melon and red grapefruit.
  • Years 1 and 2 all visited Bath Community Organic Garden where activities included pressing apples to produce fresh juice and planting broad beans.
  • Years 1 and 2 took part in a Cooking Challenge. Y1 made fruit kebabs and Y2 made tuna salad wraps. Y2 also made fruit smoothies.
  • All the children made an Eat A Rainbow place mat which we are going to use to check out our packed lunches and school meals for healthy foods. We also made 5 a day fridge magnets to take home.
  • Lucy from Envolve came to run 5 a day workshops for Reception and Year 1.
  • We learned to sing lots of songs about healthy eating which we are going to use to celebrate harvest.
  • On Friday it was Ted’s Big Day Out to raise money for the Royal United Hospital. We decided to make it ‘Ted’s Big Healthy Day Out’. We all dressed in the colour of the rainbow that matches our class names. Each class made giant fruit which we made into a big rainbow on the playground. We put all our money for Ted on the fruit. The best surprise was that Ted himself came to see us !
