Investigating Turbines

As part of our STEM Week activities in Y2 we have been learning about how electricity is generated. We have learned particularly about wind power and wind turbines. As well as making models of them we carried out an investigation to see if larger turbines have more power. The model turbines were made of mainly junk materials and the wind created by Mr George's hairdryer (Who knew he needed one!) To check the power created we connected the turbine to an envelope and put an incresing number of glass gems in it until the turbine couldn't pick up anymore.

Our results showed that larger turbines do create more power, but you need to have a strong enough material to make the blades so the wind doesn't bend them, like it did to our card ones!
